MEETUP: What’s Missing in Modern Career Guidance?

  • Tea Building 56 Shoreditch High Street London, England, E1 6LG United Kingdom (map)

Meetup Recap

WORK-SELF’s first Meetup brought together a vibrant mix of career professionals, creators, and curious minds to explore what’s broken and what’s possible in today’s career support landscape. Hosted by the team behind WORK-SELF, the platform designed to bring soul back into the world of work, we dug into the realities of navigating career transitions in a world where traditional guidance is no longer enough.

We began with a brief overview of the WORK-SELF platform, a hybrid physi-digital space built to support people through every phase of career transformation. From AI-powered rituals to tailored coaching touchpoints, WORK-SELF offers a new kind of clarity, one rooted in who we are, not just what we do.

The core of our discussion? The three archetypes currently left behind by existing career systems:

  1. Students unsure of what comes next—lacking exposure, pathways, and the tools to turn interests into action.

  2. Maya in Transition—the 20- and 30-somethings overwhelmed by misalignment, burnout, and a craving for meaningful, values-driven work.

  3. Experienced professionals in their 40s and beyond, holding deep skills but questioning if the work that once fit still aligns with who they’ve become.

We explored how these challenges aren’t just tactical, they’re emotional, identity-based, and ritual-starved. That’s where WORK-SELF comes in: blending agentic AI (for structure, rhythm, and support) with physical Ritual Kits (to bring grounding and intention into daily practice). It's career transformation you can actually feel.

We also announced two exciting developments:

  1. The WORK-SELF Creator Programme is officially launching, inviting a small cohort of wellness, career, and lifestyle creators to help bring our platform to life through storytelling, ritual showcases, and meaningful affiliate partnerships with generous revenue sharing and spotlight opportunities baked in.

  2. The WORK-SELF Coach Hub is in development as a collaborative home for coaches, therapists, and career guides to co-create with us. Together, we’ll match people to practitioners when they need them most, building micro-communities around aligned support, rituals, and AI-enhanced insights.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in conversation, connection, and collective insight. If you’re a creator, coach, or simply someone who knows the current career system is broken and wants to be part of the solution, we’d love to have you at our next event.

A collaborative conversation with coaches, career professionals, and people in transition.

What’s Missing in Modern Career Guidance?

Career coaching is everywhere from digital platforms to personalised sessions. But why do so many people still feel stuck, lost, or emotionally unprepared when navigating change?

This in-person meetup brings together career professionals, self-guided transitioners, and coaches to ask a deeper question: What if the gap isn’t in the information, but in the connection between identity, emotion, and action?

We’ll gather to reflect on the unseen challenges of career change, share what’s working (and what’s not), and imagine a new kind of support system, one that listens before it directs, and meets people where they truly are.

Format:

  • A short WORK-SELF welcome on what we’re exploring as a reinvention community

  • Intros in small groups so you can meet others designing or navigating career transformation

  • Roundtable discussion guided by open prompts:

    • What parts of your career transition felt least supported?

    • How much of the challenge is tactical vs identity-based vs emotional?

  • A collaborative activity to map the emotional landscape of transition and reflect on overlooked needs

  • Collective insight round to share what surfaced across the group

  • Casual time to mingle, connect, and swap stories (wine, water, and curiosity encouraged)

Why Attend:

  • Connect with other career coaches, guidance professionals, and people in transition who are asking deeper questions about the future of work support

  • Share your own lived experience around what worked and didn’t during times of career uncertainty

  • Explore the emotional and identity-level gaps left by traditional coaching models, digital platforms, and well-meaning advice

  • Contribute to shaping more human-centred career tools by surfacing insights that will directly inform the WORK-SELF platform

  • Leave with practical reflections, new language for what you’re sensing, and a community that shares your care for the inner life of work

Alignment is momentum. Let’s build some together.
